    Grading Guide

Following are our guidelines for grading. Grading is very subjective and it is difficult to put every card neatly into a category and be completely happy with the assignment.. We have tried to be as precise as possible. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us.

Gem Mint -- Four razor sharp corners. Centering 55/45 front and 60/40 back. One small, very slight printing imperfection accepted. This grade is almost never used when describing vintage cards.

Mint -- Four sharp corners. Centering 60/40 front and 80/20 back. There may be a slight printing imperfection if it does not affect the overall appeal of the card. This grade is seldom used when describing vintage cards.

Near Mint/Mint (NM-MT) -- Appears MT at 1st glance, but upon close inspection, the card can exhibit the following: , slightest fraying at one or two corners, a minor printing imperfection, and/or slightly off white borders. Centering 65/35 front and 80/20 back. Click here for example.

Near Mint+ (NM+) -- I just can't quite call it NM-MT, but it's better than NM. Corners will usually be closer to NM-MT. Minor print spots or slight focus imperfections.Centering is usually at least 70/30 front and 80/20 back. Occasionally, a card may fit this grade with slightly worse centering if every other aspect of the card is MT. Click here for example.

Near Mint (NM) -- Normally 4 strong corners (sometimes slight wear on one) centering is 75/25 or better, both top to bottom and side to side. Occasionally, a card may fit this grade with slightly worse centering if every other aspect of the card is NM-MT. Card surface is clean and exhibits no noticeable wear. Click here for example.

Excellent/Mint (EX-MT) -- Attractive cards. These can show light to moderate wear on 2 or 3 corners with 80/20 centering front and back or better both ways. Print dots, color or focus imperfections which do not detract from the overall appeal.. A very light scratch may be detected upon close inspection. No creasing. Nice cards. Click here for example.

Excellent+ (EX+) -- Essentially, an ex-mt card with just a touch more corner wear or a minor flaw that might include minor border wear or surface wear. Click here for example.

Excellent (EX) -- All corners may show some minor wear, centering is normally 85/15 or better. A bit of surface wear is possible, but still an attractive card. May exhibit some minor loss of gloss and focus may be off slightly. Light scratches, rough edge and noticeable print marks can be exhibited. Card may show some toning of the white borders. Click here for example.

Very Good/Excellent+ (VG/EX+) -- Collectible mid-grade cards, centered at least 90/10, most better. A touch more corner wear than an EX grade card. Color, gloss and focus are about the same as an EX card. No creasing. Click here for example.

Very Good/Excellent (VG/EX) -- Corners may be moderately rounded. Centered at least 90/10, most better. Noticable, but modest, scuffing, loss of gloss, light scratches. No creasing. Click here for example.

Very Good+ (VG+) -- Cards can have moderate rounding, with a minor crease or wrinkle possible. They may have minor noticeable surface wear or a minor defect. Centering is 90/10 , with most better. A very collectible card. Click here for example.

Very Good (VG) -- Handled, but not abused. Noticable wear on edges and corners, but not extreme. 90/10 centering front and back. Gloss and color loss, chipping and border discoloration. Wax/Gum staining, light on front more prominent on reverse. Light water stains. Cards may have a couple of light creases. Click here for example.

Good+ (G+) -- Still very collectible, but they exhibit significant corner wear/rounding. The creases and surface wear will be more noticeable. The card may be significantly off-center. Click here for example.

Fair/Good (F-GD) -- Rough card, with strong creasing, strong wear on surface and corners. Click here for example.

Poor -- Card shows abuse. Extreme wear to surface. Picture may be out of register. Heavy creasing is evident. Missing small pieces from corners or edges. Writing on front or back. Click here for example.
